about

I am a London/ Shropshire based artist whose work tends to centre around viewer deception and discomfort, whilst the blurring between reality and fiction is consistently the most important concept in my ongoing practice. My practice is increasingly exploratory, and so the broadness and freedom within these fairly abstract notions allows myself to experiment in a vast amount of media. My practice currently focuses upon text and installation. My interest with viewer deception encourages installation due to the interactive nature of the medium, whilst drawn to the obvious path of writing due to the reality-fiction battle that I continue to investigate. This combining of concepts and materials has allowed my work to naturally become theatrical and is on the verge of becoming performative – so I do not define my practice with a single medium.

Instead, I choose to define my practice by focusing upon the ideas behind it, and with my most recent project in mind, it is intended to be viewed using a holistic approach that steers from observing each piece as unrelated. My year long project, An Untold Story, for instance, where my short story serves as the basis for subsequently made work should not be viewed as a single story, nor the installations viewed as individual pieces. All my work, especially in the past year, is influenced by each other even if the piece itself is not visually connected. My art education has taught me how important a considered and thought-out concept is, which I believe has shaped my practice beyond recognition over the past three years. My practice is therefore fluid, ongoing and experimental, so the themes stated earlier are vital in situating my work as an artist. My installations are intended to be immersive and interactive, relying on the participation of the viewer to sit amongst it and explore the space in an inquisitive manner. Because of this, I situate myself within the realm of the movement of interactive art and can perhaps even be associated with relational aesthetics.
